My scans don't count

I just made 3 nighttime scans of a wayspot in Ingress. All of them were of maximum length that is 1 minute. I have moved slowly and moved further only after all the details in the current view ceased being greenish (I assume that means enough detail was captured). So I think I have made quality scans. None of them counted in Lightship geospatial browser, however, and no progress for scans count to activate was added. Why is that?

In general, what does determine if a scan does or does not get counted towards activation progress?

Hi there,

Thank you for your email! In general, we want to see your point of interest in different lighting conditions. Ironically, the nighttime time-bucket is most likely when conditions will be poor for scanning --meaning that the algorithm most likely rejected your scans altogether. Thankfully you do not have to scan at night in order to get your location activated. I would recommend keeping your scans to the daylight hours with at least a 5 hour difference between the oldest and most recent scans before your activation attempt.

While I wish I could assist you further, this email address is meant to support developers using our augmented reality development kit, Lightship. For help regarding portals, overclocking, or other Ingress topics, please be sure to reach out to Ingress Support.

Kind regards,
Maverick L.
