Include the following details (edit as applicable):
- Issue category: VPS / Scanning Framework
- Device type & OS version: Android
Description of the issue:
I am posting this topic to gain more clarity regarding the 3d mesh created for my activated wayspot below.
- Will adding more scans after the wayspot has been activated, improve the mesh and if yes, what timeline can i expect the additional scans reflect on the re-calculated mesh?
- I observe that the mesh for the wayspot above, does not include the scans of the parts of the temple premises taken/uploaded on the 24th Oct2024. If the scans taken/uploaded on the 24th Oct 2024 were rejected , is there a way to know the reason behind it, so that i can take precautions when i do re-scans.
- And finally what is the minimum android version needed for the upcoming scaniverse for developers app on the 11th Nov.
Thanks
Manoj Parameshwaran.
Hi Manoj,
- Localization is performed using a machine learning algorithm which gets better and better the more scans – the more data – you add to it. New scans typically take a couple hours to take effect.
- Prior to an update, the Geospatial Browser had a carousel display of meshes where you could click through and view and download different meshes that were calculated from different scans. If you don’t see parts of the temple on the mesh shown, it doesn’t mean your scans were rejected, it just means the mesh displayed isn’t from that scan. Scans that are performed longer than a minute can cause chunking – splitting into multiple meshes – to occur.
- I will have to get back to you on this. I appreciate your patience!
Kind regards,
Maverick L.
Hi Maverick,
I understand now that the localisation will be improved with each new scan, but will the mesh which i can download reflect the new scans?
I am asking this question because the AR content i planned for involved the temple tower ( gopuram) as its centerpiece and i had taken pains to get it scanned from close distances. Those scans dont reflect in the downloadable mesh and i will have diffculty placing and interacting the AR content if those parts are missing from the mesh.
Thanks for your patience.
Manoj P
Hi Manoj,
I apologize for the delay. Due to chunking, the mesh you download might not reflect all the content scanned and used by the algorithm for localization; however, any mesh you download will work for content placement as you will place your content relative to where that mesh is. If you have a good idea of where the centerpiece is, you could move the content relative to the mesh-- even if that mesh doesn’t include the centerpiece-- and place it where you believe the centerpiece would be. Alternatively, you could use our new World Pose System to place your content via geographical coordinates. Take a look at our World Pose System guide in our documentation: https://lightship.dev/docs/ardk/how-to/ar/world_pose/.
Kind regards,
Maverick L.
