VPS quality significantly degraded after uploading scans with Scaniverse 2.0.0 (Android)

  • Issue category: VPS /Scanning Framework
  • Device type & OS version: Android, 14.0
  • Host machine & OS version: OnePlus 9 Pro, OxygenOS 14.0, LE2123_14.0.0.720(EX01)
  • Issue Environment : On Device / Dev Portal

Bug reproduction steps:

A production quality wayspot that previously had fairly detailed and excelently working mesh has degraded to unusable state after uploading additional scans using the Scaniverse 2.0.0 app for Android.

Despite adding a lot of additional scans during different times of day (like 50+) and the VPS in having total of 200+ scans in the Scan Progress in Geospatial browser, the VPS is still stuck on experimental status and mesh in Scaniverse app displays a mangled view.

The previous scans were uploaded with the old discontinued Lightship app, and everything worked perfectly when reactivating, but now reactivating a waysport that has a mix of Lightship and Scaniverse scans causes the VPS to break.

Other developers I have talked to have also experienced this.

Generally its very frustrating if the reactivation causes the quality to degrade from production to experimental. This should never happen. If a waysport quality degrades because of reactivation, the lower quality should not ever take priority over the production quality one. Or at least give us an option to either use the highest quality one or the latests activated one.

An example of a waysport where this has happened can be found from: Niantic Lightship

Here is how the VPS mesh looks in the Scaniverse app after wayspot has been reactivated.

And here how it looks with just a single simple Scaniverse splat scan.

Something is clearly wrong when the two different formats are used.

Hello Temetz,

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. The team is currently investigating this situation, and I will let you know once I have any updates.

Update. After the latest reactivation, the mesh in Scaniverse has had some kind of update, but the its still very fuzzy.

It seems like the newly scanned areas and objects are rotated 180 degrees upside down, while data that was present in the older scans is facing the correct way.

Hello Temetz,

Thank you for the additional information!

We are still investigating this situation, and any subsequent re-activations will result in a similar output until we get a fix implemented. Thank you again for your patience, and I will update you here once I have more information.

Any updates on this?

The VPS in question has now changed to production quality, however the calibration still fails and the mesh viewed in Scaniverse is still a complete mess.

Hello Temetz,

Thank you for the update regarding your location. We are still investigating the issue, but thank you again for your patience as we continue to work on this.
